Lipless Crankbaits Tips For Spring Bass Fishing

The Lipless is one of the best baits for Spring bass fishing! The key is learning how to use them to specifically target big bass instead of just chucking and winding for whatever might bite. Matt shares some key tips along with showing you some of his favorite baits and how to work them in this quick video.

Lipless crank baits are incredibly versatile. They can be burned through the water column, slow rolled and "ticked" through vegetation and cover, or hopped and dragged along the bottom like a jig. All of these presentations are effective during different Spring conditions, though some are more effective than others on different lakes. For anglers that travel lake to lake or anglers that want to be well rounded on their home lake, its important to own baits for each different "style" of lipless crankbait fishing.

Underwater Sight Fishing - Which Lures Work Best?

Ever wondered why one lure works better than another? Let's head underwater to see the differences between a variety of swimbaits. As we watch, Tim explains why each bait is effective and how to use it most effectively.

We're sure you've noticed that many youtubers throw small swimbaits for their underwater footage. Wondered why? Its very easy to get a bass interested in a swimbait. Bass are hardwired to defend their nests against predators.
Swimbaits are a perfect imitation of a variety of predators that bass face. However, a swimbait is rarely the best bait for CATCHING the bed fish. For this style of fishing they have an incredibly poor hookup to land ratio. You're much better off using a small swimbait as a tool to aggravate the fish, then using a traditional bait to get the final bite.

You do not need a dedicated swimbait rod for this technique because you're not actually trying to hook the fish on this setup. However, bait control is key so you do need a very stout "flipping" style rod to control the bait on short casts. Any flipping rod will work but here is our setup...

Underwater Jig Fishing! Underwater Footage + Big Bass Catch!

Ready for more Underwater Jig Footage?! These Arizona Bass couldn't resist a flippin' jig! Ever wonder what that "tick" at the end of your line really looks like? Check this out! If the footage isn't enough just wait to the end when the GIANT eats the jig and we catch her!

So many anglers take a "swing first, ask questions later" approach to bed fishing. While this works once in a while it does a lot more harm than good. It can turn the fish "negative" very quickly, destroying your chances of a legitimate catch. Not to mention you may snag the bass in the process.

Watch closely and you'll notice how many times this bass bites without getting the hook. Its important to pay attention and not swing on the wrong pick up. Wait until the bass has fully engulfed the bait. You'll notice in the above water clip that Matt loads the road before swinging on the smaller fish, this is to confirm that is has the hook and not just the tails.

Keep in mind, if they spit out the bait, as long as you haven't "stung" the bass it will bite again. There is no hurry to swing on the first bite. Its a much safer bet to wait for the right bite, set once, and get solid hook placement than it is to swing for the fences early and lose the bass altogether.
