Swimbaits and Crankbaits For Schooling Bass

Hit the water with Matt and Tim as they locate huge schools of aggressive bass that are feeding heavily on small baitfish. The guys use a combination of paddle tail swimbaits and crankbaits to fool the bass as they feed on steep walls and ledges.

Combining different presentations is a great way to keep schools of bass "active". The hardest part of fishing for schooling bass is triggering the frenzy, but these tips will help you keep them fired up longer and drastically increase your odds of catching a BIG bass. The combination of swimbait and crankbait offers two very different looks, both fast moving, and continues to trigger multiple fish at once.

-Keitechs focus on baitfish colors, chartreuse blue, and don't be afraid to try anything with gold or yellow in it when targeting smallmouth.

-Crankbaits Focus on Chartreuse, Baitfish, and especially Ayu for Smallmouth.

Deep Crankbait Tips For Summer Bass Fishing!

The crankbait bite is already starting! Get ahead of the bite this year instead of being the guy playing catch up! Every year the transition from post spawn to full summer pattern happens in the blink of an eye. One minute we're talking about bed fishing, the next its all ledge fishing, crankbaits, and topwater.

Deep cranking is one of the best ways to consistently load the boat with bass during the Summer months. The bite will start now and typically run all the way into September or October depending on the lake. The key to consistently catching bass on deep cranks is to adapt size and color of the baits to changing conditions.

This year we want you to focus on fine tuning your presentations at different depths. Below is a list of baits and equipment that we personally use for this application.

Matt's GIANT Crankbait Bass!! Full Catch Footage!

Matt hooks up on this GIANT Bass almost a year to the day after Tim's MONSTER catch! We traveled several thousand miles, drove for hours on the water, and risked an INSANE lightning storm, just for a shot at a fish like this!

Smallmouth are AMAZING predators. If you've never had a chance to target them, put it on your bucket list! Smallmouth bass have traditionally been targeted with finesse tackle but that is changing. These fish are aggressive feeders and have no issue eating crankbaits, swimbaits, topwater, and a variety of other reaction baits.

Scale - (Highly Recommended) Salter Brecknell: http://bit.ly/2f7QgQ9

This bass weighed 6.54 lbs on the certified Salter Brecknell Scale. She was sitting in a school of fish on a current break. If you catch closely you'll see how quickly the water was moving past the boat while we used the Ultrex Trolling Motor (link below) on Spot Lock to stay in place and make receptive casts to the same spot. While we don't show the entire clip, we had caught approximately 15 fish in the same exact spot BEFORE the big one bit! This is classing schooling behavior and something we've covered at length in other videos.

Lipless Crankbaits Tips For Spring Bass Fishing

The Lipless is one of the best baits for Spring bass fishing! The key is learning how to use them to specifically target big bass instead of just chucking and winding for whatever might bite. Matt shares some key tips along with showing you some of his favorite baits and how to work them in this quick video.

Lipless crank baits are incredibly versatile. They can be burned through the water column, slow rolled and "ticked" through vegetation and cover, or hopped and dragged along the bottom like a jig. All of these presentations are effective during different Spring conditions, though some are more effective than others on different lakes. For anglers that travel lake to lake or anglers that want to be well rounded on their home lake, its important to own baits for each different "style" of lipless crankbait fishing.
