Hardbaits, Softbaits, and more... Spring Gear Review!

Spring is a great time to try new lures! We try as many as we possibly can and this handful made the cut after months of testing and experimentation.

If you're looking to try something different this Spring, these are all excellent choices. From swimbaits to finesse baits to deep cranks, you're going to like these picks! Here are our thoughts on them...

Megabass Hazedong Swimbait: http://bit.ly/2CIwgzt
Tight Kicking swimbait for an ultra finesse presentation. Works extremely well when slow fishing.

Damiki Armor Shad: http://bit.ly/2KtPDAT
Action lands between the Keitech 2.8 and Hazedong. Ultra versatile and a great alternative if your fish are seeing a lot of anglers throwing the 2.8

Dredger 22.5 Deep Crank: http://bit.ly/2I8xOcA
This Berkley bait goes extremely deep for its size. If you're looking for a bait that dives into similar depths as the 10XD but with half the size, this is the one for you! It also has a unique high-pitch rattle sound that works extremely well.

IMX Pro Crankbait 906 CBR Rod: http://bit.ly/2og0BmK
This rod is great for mid to full size Crankbaits. Virtually anything diving in the 7-20 foot depth range can be thrown on this setup.

Reaction Innovations Shiver Shot: http://bit.ly/2JCpY7S
The bait is a small swimbait profile but with a forked tail. It works great as a dropshot bait as well as a tiny fluke option. This bait is a must try!

Damiki Axe Blade: http://bit.ly/2w2uB9t
The Axe Blade is an incredibly versatile tail spinner. With an extra hook in the back this bait works really well for catching those fish that are just slapping at the bait. With a willow blade instead of a small Colorado its also a different sound and vibration profile than other tail spins.

Matt's Skin Cancer Operation + Sun Gear Tips

No one wants to find out they've got cancer, especially when they're young! Matt faced some scary news earlier this year. We waited to share it with you until he got the all clear but the time has come to let you know how serious the sun gear/sunscreen issue really is. The Sun doesn't mess around, you need to take care of yourself!

If you're not wearing sun gear because it fogs up, we have a trick for you in this video! If you're not wearing it because it looks silly, get over it. Matt is 34 years old with a young family and wasn't expecting to find out that his cumulative sun damage had already developed to the point of minor surgery.

If you're going to wear sunscreen be sure that you use a product with Zinc in it for maximum protection. The benefit of sun gear is that your skin is completely covered, being exposed to minimal doses of harmful rays. Take care of yourself, get checked, and get your family checked. Early detection can turn a potentially life threatening situation into a minor bump in the road.

Below is a break down of the sun gear we use...

How To Sight Fish When Its NOT EASY!

Got Wind? Got Murky Water? Don't worry! You can still catch those fish! We've talked in the past about how to target bed fish that you can't see at all by flipping likely cover. In this video we're talking about how to catch them when conditions get tough.

We've all been in the situation where our plan is destroyed by weather. Either the wind picks up, or the water gets muddy, or visibility is lost due to cloud cover or algae, and we're left high and dry. When this happens most anglers simply quit sight fishing and move on to other patterns. Don't be that guy!

If you're the only guy that can still sight fish during a "tough" day, you're going to be the guy that wins the tournament, or who gets that trophy fish you've been dreaming about. The key is to move quickly, look very thoroughly, and not get hung up on only targeting big bass.

Good glasses are KEY during tough conditions! We've said this before and we'll say it again, spending a ton of money on glasses doesn't make them the best. If you haven't tried a set of Eye Surrenders in either Amber or Copper lenses, it will make a world of difference for you when the conditions get tough and you're trying to see into darker than normal water. Here are the glasses...

If you're in a tournament that is expecting 30 lbs and the conditions get tough, drop the expectation to 20 and just focus on catching. If they're expecting 20 lbs, drop to 12-15 lbs. By targeting slightly smaller fish you'll find that you become very consistent when everyone else is hitting rock bottom, just trying to catch tiny fish.

This is the one time that we break our own rule and start using very bold lure colors. Whites, Chartreuses, and pinks are all great choices. Remember, this typically isn't the time for giant baits. Focus on smaller profiles that are easier to see so you can capitalize on ever opportunity that presents itself. Here are some of our favorites for those tough days...

Dropshot- Reaction Innovations Shiver Shot: http://bit.ly/2JCpY7S
(White Trash or Morning Dawn)

Texas Rig- Reaction Innovations Smallie Beaver: http://bit.ly/2dR6CkP
(White Trash)

Shaky Head- Strike King Fat Baby Finesse Worm: http://bit.ly/2jqIGEJ
(Fire Tiger, Morning Dawn)

Swimbait- Keitech 3.8 or 4.3: http://bit.ly/2ab7s8v
(Male Perch, Sight Flash, Sun Gill)

Stick Bait- Yamamoto Senko 5": http://bit.ly/2axAmNS
(Chartreuse/Shad Laminate, Morning Dawn, Cream White)

The next time tough conditions present themselves don't back down. Move into the shallows, look as deep as you can, and be the guy that makes it happen instead of the guy talking about what could have been!
