Giant Fish Story - 7 Lb 4 Oz Brook Trout!

You've been asking for the story behind this giant fish and today we're finally letting it out. This is the story of Matt's 7 lb 4 oz Brook Trout! You already know the story of the 17 lb largemouth on the left side of the desk, here is the story of the incredible fish on the right!

This fish catch took place when Matt was 10 years old. He and his family were visiting Cherry Lake in California. An average day of bank fishing took a turn toward the incredible when the big brook trout inhaled Matt's Rooster Tail spinner.

A Brook trout of this size is a catch of a lifetime for any adult, let alone a small boy. The catch itself is incredible but the chain of events it kicked off changed Matt's direction in life forever. Even at a young age, the desire to "just catch fish" vanished and was replaced for a desire to catch the biggest fish he could find.

While TacticalBassin's primary focus today is bass fishing, Matt and Tim are actually accomplished multi-species anglers. They hold a handful of non-bass world records and thoroughly enjoy chasing fish of all species.

Below is the Rooster Tail and line that Matt was using that day. We've also included an updated rod/reel combo that we would use today for this type of fishing.

How To Catch Huge Slab Crappie

Today we're catching Slab Crappie on swimbaits, hair jigs, and finesse plastics. If you want to catch bigger crappie, these tips are what you've been looking for. Crappie are abundant but anyone who fishes for them regularly knows how temperamental they can be. Some crappie gear works remarkably well but a lot of it is unrefined. By making a few quick changes you can take your crappie fishing to a whole new level.

For years bass fishermen have known the power of Keitech swimbaits and hair jigs for bass. By applying these same refined lures to Crappie, anglers can increase their catch rates and typically increase the size of catch as well. We tend to use heavier heads than traditional crappie fishing in order to get the correct action out of the lures. The heavier weights also allow us to use light bass tackle.

Below is a break down of the gear we were using in this video as well as a few color recommendations for the various baits.

A Day On The Water With TacticalBassin : Late Fall Bass Fishing

The Buyer's Guides are coming! The Holiday Season has arrived and with it, the need to understand what gear is worth purchasing and what should be avoided. With all the craziness ahead Tim and Matt took a break and just went fishing. A warm November afternoon is a rare sight and they took full advantage!

The guys started off with a plan. They brought a few key baits and expected to hit a couple quick spots that had been holding good groups of fish. As often happens, the fish had vanished and the boys had to adapt. With only a handful of rods in the boat they made key adjustments in lures, locations, and depths, and finally caught some really nice fish.

The key to this day was adaptation. The plan was to take a lipless crankbait and a jerkbait, targeting fish in less than 3' of water. The guys ended up adding an underspin, and a worm, in water ranging from 3 to 25 feet deep to find the success they were after.

The baits...
