Frog Fishing For Bass | Everything You Need To Know

Topwater time has arrived! Frog fishing is as good as it gets in bass fishing but first you've got to learn how to do it properly. Today Tim is taking us in-depth, covering what different baits are for, how to work them, colors, locations, and so much more! Whether you're looking to catch your very first frog fish, or you're advanced but wanting to see a review of the best new baits on the market, this video is for you!

Frogs can be broken down into 4 categories. Tim explains the differences between "all around frogs", "cover frogs", "popping frogs", and "straight retrieve frogs". Each frog style has a unique purpose and needs to be treated differently. Tim does a great job of breaking down each style and teaches exactly how to work each one.

Don't get caught unprepared this year. Don't be the guy who can't get bit! Worse yet, don't be the guy missing all the bites! With some quick study your hookup to land ratio can be amazing with a topwater frog. Below is a breakdown of the baits and equipment that Tim discusses in the video.

Insane Crankbait Bite! Fishing Lake Fork, Texas!

We're in East Texas and the big bass are biting! Our 3rd stop on this bass fishing adventure is Lake Fork! It only takes a few minutes to discover the shad are spawning on shallow points and the bass are ambushing the baitfish. We put our electronics to work and located a big school with BIG fish in the mix. Out came the crankbaits and the pattern unfolded from there.

May is an awesome time to fish large bodies of water. If there is deep water access you'll almost always find bass in all 3 stages of the spawn. In this case we found a secondary point leading out to main lake structure that had a large school of fish. Some of the bass were heading in to spawn, others were already done and headed back out, but all of them were making a stop to ambush Threadfin and Gizzard Shad as they spawned along the wind blown point.

We've explained in recent videos that the shad spawn is an amazing time to catch big fish that are aggressively feeding in shallow water. Today we put that video to work and caught them on squarebill crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and paddle tail swimbaits. Below is a breakdown of the gear we used to catch these fish.

Early Summer Frog Fishing!

The frog bite is just kicking off and they're eating it like they've never seen a frog before! The blow ups are viscious and the fish are BIG! Frog fishing is one of the most exciting ways to catch a bass! Its close quarters combat with heavy tackle. Come along for a day of Frog fishing on Clearlake with Tim Little!

Whether you're a veteran frog angler or you're just getting started, there are details in this video you can pick up on. Watch closely and you'll see that Tim is using 3 different frogs to get the best hookup ratio around a variety of different grasses. When the grass is so thick it mats up, he turns to the Live Target. When the grass is thick but not completely solid, he finds his best success with the Bully Wa 2, and when the grass is sparse, he couldn't beat the Teckel Sprinker's ability to call fish up.

The frog is one of the few baits where dedicated equipment is key. With the wrong setup you'll miss or lose every fish that bites, but with the right gear you can have an amazing time on the water. Below is a break down of the baits and tackle that Tim was using to be successful with a frog.

Best Baits for Post Spawn Fish **UNDERWATER FOOTAGE**

Underwater Footage! Today we're headed back underwater to watch footage of bass in their natural environment. As we transition into the post-spawn and ultimately toward Summer we know that bass follow two behavioral patterns. The fish either head deep to the ledges and rock outcrops or they head shallow and burrow in to cover. Today we're going to focus on the behavior of the shallow bass.

As bass move into shallow cover they begin feeding heavily. Anglers can pursue them with a variety of methods but our favorites are topwater and heavy flipping. Today's video focuses heavily on topwater and gives us an incredibly unique underwater view of how bass line up and attack topwater baits from below.

There is an incredible amount of information to be learned by watching exactly how these bass feed. From how they stalk, to how far they're willing to move, to watch causes the "trigger" in their feeding response, you can become a much better angler just watching their reactions as baits pass overhead. We hope you enjoy the footage!

Below is a breakdown of the baits used in the video as well as a few extras that Tim really likes this time of year.
