How To Catch Bass In A Flooded Lake - Oklahoma Edition

We're in Oklahoma to fish but the lakes are flooded! Instead of leaving we headed out on Tenkiller Lake to show you how to break down a lake with unstable water conditions and to hopefully catch a few bass along the way. The day ends with CC catching her new personal best! Come along for a fun day of bass fishing in the MidWest.

We started the day targeting fish offshore. In Summer most lakes have two groups of fish, those that stay shallow after they spawned and those that moved offshore. When lakes begin to rise the shallow fish are most impacted by the rising water. They will typically push up along the new shoreline and can be incredibly difficult to target. By staying offshore and targeting fish on structure (humps, ledges, and long tapering points) we're able to get on a much more consistent pattern without having to bury ourselves in cover.

High rising water is much more difficult in early Spring when bass are moving up in the prespawn. After the spawn its much easier to simply target the off shore bass. Whether the water stays clear or turns to mud, the fish will typically stay positioned the same way they were before the flooding began. Below is a breakdown of the baits and gear that we were using to catch fish on Tenkiller Lake.

POND Bass Fishing from a KAYAK **LIGHTNING & FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS**

Tim is back on the kayak in a tiny pond and he's catching bass! Come along as he fishes a frog and senko for the pond bass. He's hoping to catch some nice fish before a giant storm rolls in with flash flood warnings, thunder, and lighting.

Tim starts out with a Bully Wa Frog. As the day progresses he switches over to a Sprinker frog hoping the straight retrieve will get a better bite than the side to side walking action of a traditional frog. He gets bit on the very first cast and after that focus completely shifts to the Teckel. Tim continues to explore, picking up both a senko and a Rage Bug to probe the thick grass in the middle of the pond.

Pond fishing is typically a little easier than fishing on a big lake. While you have less water to work with, the trade off is the bass are easy to target and trapped in a confined space. By implementing a 2-part attack with the combination of topwater and senko Tim was able to quickly and easily locate the fish that were feeding in the pond. He didn't have time to dig deep into the reeds in search of a bigger fish but he did the best he could with a short window of opportunity.

Below is a breakdown of the lures and equipment Tim used to have a successful day on the water.

Bass Fishing Grand Slam on Table Rock Lake!

Today we're exploring Table Rock Lake in Missouri. Its our first time in the state but it doesn't take long to establish a pattern. Come along for a fun day on the water as we search the lake, figure out the bite, and each catch a grand slam! If you understand the principals behind how bass move, locating fish in a new lake shouldn't take long. Table Rock proved to be very clear, loaded with bait, and has an amazing bass population.

We used a combination of baits to find consistent success today. We started off with a topwater (River2Sea Rover) and a glide bait (S Waver 168). We used this combination to draw fish up in the clear water so we could see them and figure out how they were positioning. It worked extremely well, showing us that fish were suspending on shallow cover and holding tight to chunk rock on mud banks. Once we'd established the pattern the swimbait (Keitech 4.3 and 3.8) became the main producers.

We hope you enjoyed spending a day on the water with us in the Midwest. Table Rock is an amazing fishery and we can't wait to return! If you haven't been following along we're in the midst of a nationwide road trip and the videos to come get more and more in depth with information on locating fish and establishing patterns. Continue to follow along as we come to a lake near you!
