Which Fishing Line? Braid vs Fluorocarbon vs Mono

When should you use Braid? When is fluorocarbon better than mono? What is each line for? Matt answers these questions and many more in today's in-depth look at fishing line. Even if you've made your mind up about your favorite line this video is worth a watch, some new technical lines have hit the market that are bridging the gap between line types.

This video goes in depth about all 3 fishing lines. We ignored copolymer for the sake of time as its really just an "in between" between fluorocarbon and monofilament. All of these different styles of line are important. Each one has a place and will increase your success while fishing. But use the wrong line for the wrong purpose and it will give you endless problems. This year we have the added bonus of "shock leader" which is essentially fluorocarbon that stretches like monofilament.

Because this video ran so long we did not include the portion on tying our favorite knots. We'll release a bonus video tomorrow that shows exactly how to tie a Palomar, double Palomar, San Diego Jam, Double San Diego Jam, and a Blood Knot.

Below is a break down of the different lines and types we use on a regular basis.

Underwater Footage!! Best Creature Baits Compared!

We're headed back underwater with 7 of the most popular creature baits in bass fishing! If you've ever wondered how your lure really looks under water, this series is for you! Not all creatures are created equal, see the differences for yourself. We've rigged all the baits on a texas-rigged 1/4 oz tungsten weight with a 4/0 Offset worm hook to get a true comparison. Let's head underwater!

Texas-rigged creature baits are one of the most consistent lures in bass fishing. Every angler knows that when the bass get around cover, they can't resist a creature bait! Whether you prefer a shorter, more compact profile or a longer, slender profile, we're testing a variety of baits that will apply to you. As you watch these baits in the water focus on the details of how each bait swims and moves at various speeds so you can select the bait that will best meet your needs.

In general, we lean towards natural colors first and dark colors second. Some of our favorites are simple colors like Green Pumpkin Black Flake, Black and Blue, Junebug, and Watermelon Red. Don't get caught up with all of the colors, instead focus on choosing a natural color and a dark color that you have confidence in, and stick to one or two creatures that you feel have the best action. Below is a breakdown of the different baits we've included in the video in order of appearance.

Swim Jigs: Everything You Need To Know For Summer Bass Fishing

Swim jigs made easy! Matt gives quick tricks that you can use to take your swim jig fishing for bass to the next level! If you're a spinnerbait or chatterbait guy, the swim jig is the next step. When combined with the proper trailer the baits come to life with amazing movement and flash that bass can't resist. Don't get caught shaking your swim jig this Summer, learn the proper technique and catch more bass!

In recent years, most swim jig fishermen have begun to use a keitech as their trailer. While this can be effective (and we often do it) its not the ideal swimbait trailer for a swim jig. Switching over to baits like the Rage Swimmer or D Walker will complete change the way the bait moves. A properly balanced swim jig with the right trailer will have head bob/roll, body rock, and skirt movement/flash without you imparting any outside action to the bait.

Summer time is the perfect time to learn the swim jig. This time of year you can get a lot of bites on the baits but you can also catch GIANT fish! Again, the key is selecting the right trailer. Below is a breakdown of the jigs, jig trailers, and equipment we use for swim jig fishing.

Is Lake Chickamauga Really That Good? (Big Bass Eats A Spinnerbait)

Chickamauga was amazing! We'd never been to the lake but we had heard the rumors! Is it as good as they say? Can we catch a bunch of fish? How about a big bass? Come along as we head out on the water to see what all the fuss is about on Tennessee's best trophy bass lake. Spoiler Alert: Its good and we catch some big ones!

In 3 days we never struggled to get a bite and we caught fish on every lure that we threw. From senkos up shallow to deep cranks offshore, there we bass everywhere! The trick was figuring out how to catch the big ones but after a few days we got it dialed in and had an amazing time catching quality fish all over the lake The key for the bigger bites was shad. There was a shad spawn in the morning and the big bass were keying in on the opportunity.

Below is a breakdown of the baits and equipment we used during our time on the lake. Baits are listed in order of appearance as we caught fish on a variety of lures. If you ever get the chance, take a day to fish Chickamauga, its an awesome fishery!

Matt found an All-Around Rod This Trip that was unbelievably universal. From senko to spinnerbait, swim jig to Keitech, he was able to use a single rod. That's extremely rare but the combination of soft tip and solid back bone made the MBR amazingly versatile.
