Fishing Rod Buyer's Guide

Ever wanted to buy a new fishing rod but can't decide which one to get? Tim explains what all the different actions, ratings, and sizes mean so you know what you're getting before it arrives.

Ever wondered what all the letters and numbers mean? Example: 845CBR. Well , if you're looking at a G Loomis that's 84 inches long, 5 power rod, CBR (Crank Bait Rod). If its a Dobyns (704C) that would be a 7'0", 4 power rod, "C" for Casting Rod. All of those numbers and letters can get pretty confusing but they're actually really easy to understand once its been explained.

Dobyns 908 Swimbait Rod Review

Are you in the market for a swimbait rod to throw a giant glidebait or softbait? The Dobyns 908 will handle the biggest baits you can throw! Watch the video to get Matt's perspective.

At 9' long and rated for 30+ ounces, this rod is for serious big bait fishing! The rod has a unique taper that allows it throw monsterous baits with ease. What's more interesting is that it can also throw lighter offerings. While it may not be ideal for throwing an 8" huddleston, it can be done.  There are a lot of great custom rods on the market but if you're looking for a production rod to throw monster baits, look no further.

Fishing With Underspins On Clearlake

Matt takes you out for a day on Clearlake throwing an underspin. With water levels receeding the fishing is more difficult than normal so Matt abandons his typical power techniques in favor of a small underspin.

Bass fishing with an underspin is a great way to catch bass when conditions get tough. If you were on a spinnerbait or crankbait bite and the conditions get tougher consider switching to an underspin and you might just reactivate your fish.

The key is the combination of swimbait and flashing blade. The blade causes the lure to stand out from the shad or other baitfish so the bass are more likely to eat it. If you haven't fallen in love with the underspin, its time to give it a try!
