Fishing the spawn is all about boat positioning. Our Talons make a huge difference! The advantage of Talons over a trolling motor is that the prop is never turning but you're still able to sit perfectly still. If you've considered Shallow Water Anchors give Talons a look.

A Day On The Water: Spring Fishing With Matt On Clearlake

Come along for an early pre-spawn day on Clearlake. The water temps are in the low 50's, air temps at launch are 37 degrees, but the bass are biting! We spend the day adapting and developing a pattern as we explore the lake with a variety of reaction baits.

We all dream about the wide open Spring bite but more often than not we're met with challenging weather conditions. This day was a perfect example of changing conditions resulting in a bite that was tougher than anticipated. The difference between frustration and success is being willing to adapt.

Easy Jerkbait Tips For Bigger Spring Bass

Its time to catch bigger fish! These jerkbait tips will help you catch big bass this Spring. Knowing when to throw a tiny jerkbait instead of a large offering or a bold color instead of natural, can make all the difference. When it comes to jerkbait fishing, small details can yield huge results.

Matt uses a 2-pronged approach to jerkbait fishing. He begins by searching for outliers (bigger than average bass) with large profiled baits but will quickly adapt to a triggering approach focused around schooling fish and small baits, when necessary. Understanding how to use a jerkbait as a tool instead of just another lure is the difference between just catching fish and being an excellent jerkbait fisherman.

Below is a breakdown of the baits and tackle we recommend. Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone this year and target the fish with baits you wouldn't have normally thrown. You might be surprised by how big of a bass is willing to swipe your jerkbait!

Is Bass Fishing In Mexico Worth It?

We headed to Mexico’s Lake Baccarac to find out if Mexico fishing is as good as they say. From the flight to the meals to the fishing, it was top notch all the way! If you've ever wondered if bass fishing in Mexico is worth the trip, check this out...

When we travel we pride ourselves on fishing without outside help, approaching lakes the same way we do at home. It took a bit of work but we were able to get out on the water unguided and truly explore it for ourselves. We were amazed by the quality and quantity of fish, as well as the incredible amount of Tilapia and shad in the lake. The fishery is as healthy as any we have in the states. We felt safe the entire time, despite fishing alone in a foreign country.

Below is a breakdown of the baits and tackle we were using, as well as a link to the lodge in case you want to try your hand at catching a big bass in Mexico. One of our favorite parts of the trip is that you didn't have to use a specific bait to catch fish. We brought a variety of confidence baits and caught fish on nearly all of them!

To answer the question: Yes, fishing in Mexico is worth it! We had an amazing time and will definitely do it again!

The baits in order of appearance...

River2Sea S-Waver 168 (Light Trout): http://bit.ly/2aiu8Sh

Dirty Jigs No-Jack Flippin' Jig (Okeechobee 420): http://bit.ly/2fx8YBI

Strike King 10" BullWorm (PlumApple): http://bit.ly/2IVzvuS

Keitech 4.8" Fat Swimbait (Pro Blue Red Pearl): http://bit.ly/2ab7s8v

HogFarmer 5 wire - 8 blade rig: http://bit.ly/2nuruR5

Lucky Craft BDS-6 Crankbait (Golden Shiner): http://bit.ly/2sRZby9

6th Sense C20 Crankbait (Shad Fantasy): http://bit.ly/2BQ4uDs

Osprey Tournament Talon (Gizzard Shad): http://bit.ly/2bqsLS0

The Key is to use all-around rods while traveling so you can use as many baits as possible on a single rod. Our most used rod this trip was...

Rod- Zodias 7'6" Med Heavy Crankbait: http://bit.ly/2cgmMAe

Reel- Curado 200K HG: http://bit.ly/2tHewEh

Line- 50 lb Power Pro Braided Line: http://bit.ly/2aFg46b

Leader- 20 lb Maxima Ultragreen: http://bit.ly/2ae97J9

The Lodge...

Pro Bass Adventures Lake Baccarac: http://bit.ly/2MDiiVR

Tackle/Rod Storage...

Rod Tube- Plan Telescoping Rod Case: http://bit.ly/2GbEKnM

Standard Tackle Box- Plano Waterproof 3740: http://bit.ly/2fvjcFB
