Buzzbaits - Everything You Need To Know

The buzzbait is one of the easiest topwater lures you can fish. It can be fished over cover, through grass, or in open water. No matter where its fished, it produces some of the biggest, most violent bites of the Summer! Many anglers fail to realize how versatile the buzzbait really is. With simple modifications these baits can be fished in virtually any cover.

The number one buzzer on the market is a single-bladed buzzbait with a clacker. That configuration covers water quickly and draws fish from the depths with its ruckus. However, if you're on a lake where a lot of other anglers are throwing a buzzbait its often wise to try a different profile. We often turn to a quad blade, which is extremely subtle, or a double buzz which can be retrieved at an extremely slow pace.

If you find yourself around overhead cover like docks, trees, or brush, the skirtless buzz is a must have! We typically tip the skirtless buzzbait with a paddle tail swimbait to create an action the fish haven't seen before. With a swimbait for a trailer this buzz can easily be skipped deep into cover and on the retrieve the subtle blade leads a perfectly natural swimbait profile back out of the shadows. If you haven't tried a skirtless buzzbait, now is the time.

Below is a breakdown of the buzzbaits and trailers we use for different circumstances. Our favorite buzzbait colors are Red/Black, Black, and White, in that order.

How To Catch Bass In The Heat! (Its Easy)

Let's go catch Giant Summer bass together! Its not hard once you know where to look! Today we're going to show you exactly how the bass position on hot days and what you need to know to catch them. We're going to show you 6 different techniques you can use to run the hot weather pattern and catch bass anywhere in the country this Summer.

Many anglers are afraid to go out in the middle of the day in Summer. The heat gets so intense it can be really uncomfortable but the same scenario that keeps you away makes the bass bite like clockwork. Once you understand how to use shadows to your advantage, you can catch bass everywhere you go.

Matt shows us how you can take the shadow pattern and apply it to shallow bass with a frog, punch rig, and senko. Then he turns around the same day and shows how you it can be done with a jig, a worm, and a deep crankbait. It really is that easy! You have to get out and do some bass fishing before the dog days of Summer come to an end.

Below is a breakdown of the baits, including colors, that Matt used in the video. We've also linked all 6 rods he had rigged on deck.

Summer Bass Fishing Gear Review!

In today's gear review we're taking a look at the new Shimano SLX DC reel, a handful of swimbaits, and an accessory that every bass boat needs. It doesn't matter if you're looking for your next 10 lber, or you just enjoy a day on the lake, there is something in this video for everyone. Tim hand selected these products for this video because they've had a positive impact on his fishing.

The Troll Jacket is one of those products that seems so simple we all should have thought of but we didn't. It makes a huge difference in our day to day lives on the boat. We're no longer struggling with a mess of cords around the trolling motor, no more zip ties cutting into cables, and no more cables fraying or twisting from use. The SLX DC is a no brainer. We've all fallen in love with the Metanium DC and Curado DC and this recent step with the SLX makes it more affordable still.

Both the Ima Glide Fluke and Megabass Okashira heads came out of friends of TacticalBassin putting on a clinic on the water. Once in a while someone truly smashes the bass, leaving us to take notes and expand our fishing style going forward. Both of these baits were brought to our attention in this manner. Notes were taken, methods were tested, and both the Glide Fluke and Screw Head are winners!

Stream Fishing Big Smallmouth In Clear Water!

The guys found a small creek loaded with smallmouth bass! The water is crystal clear and the fish are in all 3 stages of the spawn. There are fish just coming in from Lake Michigan, other bass on beds, and a lot of big bass cruising the edges and shadows in search of a big meal. Realizing the opportunity, the guys quickly began catching fish on everything from a dropshot to a swimbait. Come along for an exciting day of fishing and teaching as we explain how to fish for bass in current.

Its early Summer in Michigan and the fish are aggressive! We began by catching fish sitting along the edges of cover but as we moved farther up river we discovered spawners in the shallows. Toward the end of the day we realized post spawn fish would ambush reaction baits as well, catching them on swimbaits, jerkbaits, and topwater.

Fishing in current is all about understanding bass behavior. These fish face up stream and feed by sight. They're watching the moving water for any sign of food drifting by. When a meal appears they have one shot to capture it as it passes so strikes tend to be vicious! While neither angler had ever been on this fishery, Cobi guides in both Michigan and Wisconsin on a lot of amazing smallmouth waters.
